First and foremost, I am looking forward to seeing YOU at our first General Meeting of the year, on February 20th! If you have not signed up yet, you’d better hurry! You won’t want to miss out on this program: Speaker Patty Sather will be sharing some great tips on how to market from your desk - a very timely topic considering the current market. We will also share some insights on what’s going on at the state level, with a report on the recent CEA Board of Directors meeting, held February 2 in Anaheim.

As I mentioned in my January message, to work together more effectively, we all need to gain a better understanding of each of the parties and their respective roles in the transaction. To that end, why not invite your favorite real estate agents, loan officers and loan processors to join you at OCEA's General Meetings? Spend some quality time together at our events, and spark some great follow-up conversations.

I would like to give a shout out to each of our 2019 Silver Sponsors. Without you, we would not be able to provide our members with the educational opportunities that are our reason for being. OCEA so appreciates you! You’re invited to visit the OCEA website where all of our Silver Sponsors are listed. There, you can click on their logos for a direct link to each one’s website. Remember to support the Associate members who support you.

I recently attended a company event in New Mexico where I was the moderator for a Remote Online Notarization (“RON”) and eClosing panel. It is interesting to see how the topic of “RON” continues to expand, with new bills introduced in 27 states, including AB 199 here in California. CEA’s Bill Review Committee will be closely monitoring its developments, and we will keep you updated as the year goes along.

Please be sure to mark your calendars for our remaining General Membership Meeting dates so you won’t miss a thing:

  • March 20
  • May 15
  • September 18
  • November 20

Also mark your calendar for OCEA’s Day of Education on April 13, 2019, where we will be presenting relevant topics to help you keep up to date with All Things Escrow. Details to follow - stay tuned!

As much as I love my job, I also believe that it’s important to take breaks and try new things. In January, I took a 10-day vacation to attend a silent meditation retreat called Vipassana. What a treat, as well as being a personal challenge! I came back refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of the year! I'd definitely recommend this retreat to anyone.

Thank you for the opportunity to represent you as OCEA’s 2019 President. I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting!

Sincerely,
Mickey Vandenberg
