First and foremost, I would like to thank my OCEA Board of Directors for all of the love and support I have received over the last few weeks during recovery from surgery. As some of you may know, I am currently on medical leave until sometime in June. I have been truly touched by our amazing team! A special shout out to VP Dane McClain, for presiding over the May 15 OCEA GeneralĀ Meeting. Although I didn’t make it through the whole meeting, it was great to attend at least for a short while and see many of you there.

OCEA had a sold out crowd for our May Meeting, where a great panel of experts consisting of Debi Peters, Sheila Moltoni and Jennifer FeltenĀ fielded questions and input from the audience on a variety of timely topics including:

  • FinCEN Update
  • Seller Carry-Back Notes and Trust Deeds
  • Owner’s Title Policies
  • Wire Fraud Update
Mickey Vandenberg

Special thanks to Dave Shean for covering the complex topic of prorating Supplemental Property Taxes, and how to determine when - and when NOT to prorate them.

This is what OCEA is all about, providing you with education and information about what you need to know in order to perform your job effectively. We would love to hear feedback from you: What topics would you like to hear about in future meetings, and next year’s Day of Education?

By the way, if you lost an earring during the meeting, please reach out to Dane at dmcclain@wfgtitleco.com.

Your OCEA Board will be at work for you behind the scenes over the summer. Please mark your calendar for our remaining 2019 General Membership Meetings:

  • September 18
  • November 20

We look forward to seeing you then! Watch your email for our meeting notices and reservation information.

Also, a reminder that OCEA is now taking scholarship applications for escrow officers and assistants for the 2019 CEA Conference in Costa Mesa on October 10-12. Check here for application criteria. We will announce the winners at our September meeting. Reminder, you must be present to win. Please check the link for more information here.

I hope you have all signed up for the AEA Conference, which is in our own backyard this year. Yes, it is in Long Beach, so no reason not to attend, at least on Saturday! The conference begins with the Business Meeting on Thursday June 20th. I encourage you all to attend. This is a rare opportunity to attend without paying travel expenses and learn what is happening on the national level that you can expect to affect your business. You can find all the information here.

And again, I would like to invite all of you to “like” us on FaceBook, and visit the OCEA website where all of our Silver Sponsors are listed. All sponsor logos link to their websites. Without our generous sponsors, we would not be able to provide you the educational opportunities we bring throughout the year.

I thank you for the opportunity to represent you as OCEA’s 2019 president and look forward to seeing you at our next meeting!

Sincerely,
Mickey Vandenberg
