One of the things I’ve always liked about escrow is that it’s never been boring. Not only do the transactional quirks and personalities of the players keep things interesting, but it’s also because the industry is so dynamic. Things are always changing.

That keeps things sort of exciting, but it also demands that we keep ourselves in the educational loop to stay current with the times. If you’re not doing that, you could end up exposing your company, your customers and yourself to liability. It’s serious! (Remember when the original version of the 593 - Form 593-C came into being? I do! I had a tie in with an escrow officer at Brand X Escrow months and months after that had been put into effect, and she didn’t even know the thing existed...so of course she had not been withholding on any affected transactions, including her seller on our tie in. Back then, as now, the FTB fines for failure to withhold... And that’s just one example!)

With that in mind...

CONFERENCE IS COMING - SPECIAL PRICING ENDS SEPTEMBER 23

Robin Alvarez

CEA’s 68th Annual Conference is coming, and I hope to see you there! In the course of just two days, attendees will be schooled on such topics as AI, RON, “FedNow” and RTP, get the scoop from Michael Haas, get all the latest on the legislative front from Mike Belote - and more.

Did you know: By unanimous vote of 39-0, the California State Senate has sent a Remote Notarization bill supported by the CLTA to the Governor. Senate Bill 696 (Portantino) would allow California notaries to apply for a remote online notary commission upon the finalization of rules and regulations by the California Secretary of State. The Senate vote concurred in a number of amendments made in the Assembly at the end of August. Governor Newsom has until October 14th to act on the legislation. This will definitely be up for discussion at Conference!

PD Holders: Conference is always a great time to score a bunch of CEU’s, and 2023 is the last year of the current cycle.

We’ll be at the Hilton Anaheim, and attendees can even get discounted tickets for the Disney parks!

Early bird pricing ends on September 23, so don’t delay - get your registration completed! Here’s the link.

INVEST IN YOURSELF!

You say your company doesn’t pay for you to attend? It would be so nice if they did, but don’t let that be your reason to stay away. Invest in yourself. Be all that you can be, and that requires - you got it - staying current. Plus! Conference is FUN! It’s a rare opportunity to meet and engage with other escrow professionals, network, meet the speakers and just relax in a resort environment when the day’s classes are done.

SOME THOUGHTS ON CONTINUING EDUCATION

If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you.” - Zig Ziglar

“If you think education is expensive, try estimating the cost of ignorance.” - Howard Gardner

I’ll leave you with that for now. If you have questions or ideas for OCEA, please let us know about them! We’re here for YOU!
