A Message From OCEA’s 2020 President

Dear Fellow Escrow Humans,

This will be my last President’s message for both 2020 and as your OCEA President. 2020 has been a rollercoaster of a ride for sure, but I cherished and appreciated all of the opportunities for growth. A special thank you to the amazing Board of Directors who continued to show up and be there for each other and the OCEA membership.

I look forward to supporting our incoming President Robin Alvarez and I hope you will continue to support and show up for OCEA. Lots of changes are upon us and it is important to be a part of an association that will bring you the information that you need to do your job. For instance, did you know that C.A.R. will be coming out with a new updated RPA next year? Or how about what is in store for independent escrow companies with the new Department of Financial Protection and Innovation? Are you aware of the changes to the Franchise Tax Board’s 2021 593 Form? Would you like to know what the FTB has in store for us next year?

Once again, I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as OCEA President last year and this year, and I look forward to seeing your continued support in 2021 and beyond. If you have already renewed your CEA membership for 2021 - thank you! If you haven’t done so yet, it’s not too late! Click here for an application! Think about inviting your escrow colleagues to become members as well, and enjoy all membership benefits for the entire coming year!

Happy holidays and a prosperous 2021 to you and your family. Please be well and safe out there!

My heart to yours,
Mickey Vandenberg
2019/2020 OCEA President

A Message From OCEA’s Incoming 2021 President

Dear Fellow Escrow Humans,

As I humbly assume the role of your 2021 OCEA President, I reflect on the end of this year and the upcoming year of 2021, on the POSITIVE in our lives. Our industry has been able to adapt with many changes and still handle the heavy volume this past year that was put upon us. We handled this roller-coaster of year and we did it with a smile and while being true to our customers and ourselves.

I am looking forward to 2021 to strive to be the best we can be. My theme for 2021 is “Let Go and Grow!” The purpose behind my theme is to encourage each of you to challenge yourself to get out of your comfort zone -- whether by getting involved in your local regional association or maybe taking that leap and finally go paperless, or if you have thought about getting your Professional Designation, signing up for an exam this year. There will be a PD exam in April in the Arcadia area. Make this the year you say, “Yes! I can do it!” Go get that Designation!!

Please be sure to mark your calendars for our first meeting of the year on January 20, 2021 (virtual). Our very special guest speaker will be Mike Belote, CEA’s legislative advocate in Sacramento. Look for our Meeting Notice to come out soon with more details!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Robin Alvarez, CSEO
2020 OCEA Vice President
